Organizational Culture

Crosslines Community Outreach is a collection of individual team members whose behaviors either enable the organization to reach its full potential and achieve its mission or prevent it from doing so, limiting the impact we can have on our community. To ensure all team members understand what is necessary to help CCO reach its full potential, we have identified some of the most important behaviors modeled by great teammates here.

Organization over self

We are all part of one team. We succeed or fail as one collective unit, not as individuals or even as programs/departments. So, we invest in the success of the entire organization, jumping in to help when and wherever needed, and we sacrifice for the good of the organization—because our collective mission and success is more important than what is listed in any one person’s job description or what is good for any one person or program/department individually.

Show up and follow through

We are dependable, prepared, and we finish what we start. Our teammates and the guests we serve count on us. Our work deserves more than just attendance; it deserves our full focus, intention, and follow-through. So, we take our work seriously, we do what we say we’re going to do, and we hold ourselves and each other accountable when we come up short.

Seek to understand and be understood

Listen well (and first), speak clearly, and seek connection. To know and be known by one another is necessary for loving and serving one another well. Whether we’re working with a guest, a volunteer, or a teammate, we communicate with empathy and purpose. We value understanding over assumption, and clarity over confusion. We resolve conflict with curiosity and care.

Adapt to the needs of those we serve

We stay flexible so people who need us don’t fall through the cracks. Needs change, lives are messy, and poverty is complicated. We critically examine our systems so we can make the kind of impact we plan to. We’re willing to adjust the plan or shift our strategy if it helps someone take the next step toward stability. We use systems and processes to make data-driven decisions and multiply our efforts, but our ultimate goal is to be people-focused.

Strive for excellence and growth in all things

Great teammates don’t coast. Our work matters too much for “good enough”. We’re always sharpening skills, improving systems, and stretching toward excellence. And because the person we are outside of work affects the kind of teammate we can be at work, this applies to personal growth, too. Whether it’s learning a new skill, rethinking an old understanding, or positively improving our overall health so we can be our best selves, we strive for excellence and growth—for the sake of those we serve.

People first, mission always

We take care of each other. If any one of us is struggling individually, we know it affects how much of our mission we can accomplish collectively. So, we look out for one another, we encourage and support one another, and we speak up when we see a teammate is hurting, even if we don’t know the right thing to say. We love and serve one another well because we know it will result in our guests being loved and served well, too—and that is why we are here.
