When children enter foster care, they often arrive with little more than the clothes on their backs. In Missouri, where financial support for foster families ranks second lowest nationally, families are stretched thin as they work to care for children in crisis. Ambassadors for Children steps in to fill the gap, offering quality clothing, essential items, and additional support so every child in Greene, Christian, and Taney counties can experience dignity, choice, and hope during one of life’s most difficult transitions.
Through our clothing boutique, foster support program, prom closet, and Deverin’s Locker Fund, we provide more than material goods. We offer moments of normalcy, opportunities for self-expression, and the message that these children matter.

The Need
Children in foster care face upheaval that most of us can’t imagine—removed from everything familiar, often with nothing of their own. In Greene County alone, hundreds of children enter care each year, and the families who open their homes to them receive minimal financial support from the state. Foster, kinship, and relative caregivers are doing extraordinary work with limited resources, and the children in their care deserve access to brand-new items they can call their own.
These kids have already lost so much control over their lives. The simple act of choosing their own clothes, selecting their favorite hygiene products, or picking out a blanket in their favorite color can restore a small but significant sense of agency. Quality matters. Dignity matters. And every child—no matter their circumstances—deserves to feel valued, seen, and worthy of something new that’s just for them.
Our Approach
Ambassadors for Children creates opportunities for children to make their own choices while providing families with the supplemental support they need. We believe that small acts of kindness—delivered with intention and respect—can make a lasting difference in a child’s sense of self-worth during a difficult season.
Clothing Boutique
Children shop twice per year alongside volunteer shoppers in a boutique filled with new, quality clothing and comfort items. They choose what fits their style, their personality, and their needs. Available for children in Greene, Christian, and Taney counties in foster care.
Foster Support Grants
We provide additional resources to families caring for children in crisis. Some examples of way’s we’ve been able to help include: bunk beds, car seats, and extracurricular activities. Support is available through a simple application process for resource families, kinship providers, and caseworkers.
Prom Closet
Every young person deserves to experience big events with confidence. Our prom closet offers free formal attire to youth in Greene, Christian, and Taney counties, whether they’re in foster care or not, so financial barriers don’t stand in the way of important milestones.
Deverin's Locker Fund
Through the gift of sports equipment and dues, Deverin’s Locker Fund ensures that children have access to the resources they need to thrive in athletics, no matter their circumstances.
