Jewel is an 86-year-old woman with a gentle spirit and a story that reminds us exactly why we’re here.
It was her first time visiting the food pantry. She moved slowly, cautiously, relying on a walker. The toll of her recent stroke was visible not just in her steps, but in her eyes. She looked overwhelmed, vulnerable, and uncertain. As we helped her get situated for pantry services, she softly mentioned that she had just received a utility disconnect notice. She was scared. Alone. Unsure of where to turn.
That’s when our team stepped in.
During her visit to the pantry, Jewel received food right away, relieving at least one of the many heavy burdens she was carrying. Then we introduced her to David, our Senior Services Specialist, who quickly enrolled her in our Senior Box program, a vital lifeline for many older adults in our community. Through this program, low-income seniors receive monthly deliveries of nutritious food right to their doorstep. Jewel left, knowing she wouldn’t have to worry about where her next meal would come from.
And the support didn’t end there. With help from our Case Management team, we were also able to assist with part of her utility bill, keeping her lights on, and her fears at bay.
Jewel didn’t just receive emergency assistance during her visit to Crosslines she began to regain her footing. With access to nutritious groceries, compassionate case management, and the steady support of a caring community, she’s now building a path toward renewed stability and lasting hope.
