On a chilly, overcast Saturday, a softball field in Buffalo was filled not just with athletes — but with heart.
Volunteer and Guest Services Coordinator, Bambie Wurzburger, a shining example of Crosslines Community Outreach’s mission in action, organized a community softball tournament that raised more than $700 and a truckload of toys for local families served by CCO. Despite the wintry weather, spirits were warm, and competitive energy was high as teams took the field for a cause that hits close to home for its organizer.
“This was about having fun and giving back,” Bambie said, smiling as players huddled over coffee and kids loaded donated toys into trucks. “People showed up ready to play, ready to serve, and ready to bless families who need it.”
A Life Changed — Paying It Forward
Years ago, Bambie came to Crosslines in a very different frame of mind. She joined the organization through the CASP (Community Alternative Service Program), not knowing that what began as an obligation would become a calling.
CCO didn’t just give her tasks — it gave her purpose, community, and a chance to rebuild.
“What started as a requirement turned into a second chance,” she often shares. “CCO changed my life. I found belonging. I found confidence. And I found people who believed in me.”
Bambie is now a sixteen-year veteran of the CCO team, pouring that same hope and encouragement into guests who walk through Crosslines’ doors every day.
A Tournament Fueled by Heart
Softball has long been one of Bambie’s great loves — a place she finds teamwork, joy, and healthy competition. When she first suggested turning her favorite sport into a fundraiser, no one doubted her ability to pull it off.
And she did — with flair.

The generosity poured in along with the toy donations, filling the bed of a pickup truck destined for children who might otherwise go without this Christmas.

Bambie’s journey embodies the mission of Crosslines — meeting people where they are, lifting them up, and empowering them to serve others in return.
“Bambie reminds us that restoration isn’t just possible — it’s powerful,” said CCO VP of Program Wes Buchholz. “She’s a leader, a motivator, and a servant-hearted warrior for our mission. We couldn’t be more proud.”
What began as a program requirement transformed into a career, a mission, and last weekend — a ballgame with a purpose.
As players packed up gloves and bats and the last of the toys were loaded, Bambie looked across the field — proud, grateful, and already planning next year.
“I love softball. I love to compete. And I love helping people,” she said. “If I can do all three at once? Even better.”
